Energy Star program

DOE/EPA ENERGY STAR is a government-backed program helping businesses and individuals protect the environment through superior energy efficiency.

Freeing The Grid 2011

Freeing the Grid is a policy guide that grades all 50 states on two key renewable energy programs: net metering and interconnection procedures.

Net Metering

Net metering is a simple billing arrangement for customer-sited DG. Without exception, significant deployment of clean, customer-sited DG occurs only in states with modern interconnection and net metering policies.

The Energy - Water Nexus

It takes a significant amount of water to create energy. Water is used to cool steam electric power plants - fueled by coal, oil, natural gas and nuclear power - and is required to generate hydropower. Water is also used in great quantities during fuel extraction, refining and production. It takes a significant amount of energy to treat and move water. Energy is used to extract, move and treat water for drinking and irrigation. It is used in the collection, treatment and disposal of wastewater. Energy is also consumed when water is used by households and industry, especially through heating and cooling.

Power Plants Kill Fish - New York

Power plants that draw in cooling water from New York's rivers, lakes and estuaries kill fish, and older plants in particular kill them in enormous numbers.

Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency

Renewable energy and energy efficiency are essential for managing water resources and food production in a more socially and environmentally-responsible way.

Plugging Renewables into the Grid

Americans are increasingly aware of the importance of renewable resources in reducing the nation’s dependence on fossil fuels and decreasing greenhouse gas emissions. The greatest barriers to the expanded use of renewables stem not from technical obstacles, but from financial, political and social hurdles.

About the Energy Program

The GRACE Energy Program promotes clean energy, focusing on renewable energy, distributed generation and energy efficiency, and describes the environmental effects of conventional power generation.

Have You Met GRACE? Welcome to Our New Website

The flapping of a butterfly’s wings may or may not have the capacity to trigger a tornado on another continent, but without a doubt, our food, water and energy systems have profound impacts upon each other (and us, and our planet). With that in mind, we're excited to introduce our new GRACE website.
