It is winter, and now is the time when our thoughts turn to...farm-fresh produce?

Why? Because CSA Day is February 23rd!

What Is a CSA?

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. CSAs give people in cities and suburbs the ability to enjoy farm-fresh produce while helping small farms stay financially secure. Members buy a share of the farm's harvest, sharing in both the risks and bounty of the growing season.

Members typically pay up front for an entire season but many CSAs have flexible payment plans, and some even offer sliding scale fees and scholarships. Once the growing season starts, members make regular pick-ups of vegetables, fruits and other farm products like eggs, meat and flowers.

When you join a CSA, you are making a commitment to:

  • Eating healthful foods and preparing them for your family;
  • Supporting your local farmer;
  • Being kind to our planet;
  • Learning something new; and
  • Being adventurous in your kitchen.
