Calling all farmers market lovers! This month, the Farmers Market Coalition will be hosting its 3rd Annual Farmers Market Poster Contest, sponsored in part by GRACE's Seasonal Food Guide. Entrants must come up with a design for a poster that celebrates a farmers market that's operating during the 2017 season. Anyone can enter the contest, and if you win, the prize money will be awarded to the farmers market represented on the poster. The contest runs through July with winners to be announced during National Farmers Market Week, August 6-12 2017.
Why Farmers Market Posters?
Marketing is essential to the success of any business. In a recent national survey conducted by American Farmland Trust and the Farmers Market Coalition, farmers reported that the best way farmers markets can support their businesses is by offering higher quality, better funded and more targeted advertising and signage. While many farmers market vendors work hard to create eye-catching displays to entice customers, it's key to the success of a market for operators to spread the word about the fresh food and services they have to offer. Posters are an efficient and inexpensive way to promote farmers markets, providing customers with the who, what, where, when and why of their venue through beautiful and creative design.
About the Contest
The Farmers Market Coalition will be judging posters entered into this year's contest based on their ability to:
- Clearly identify market information
- Engage the audience
- Communicate a sense of place
- Clearly communicate the market's EBT and/or nutrition incentive options (Bonus Category)
The Farmers Market Coalition is looking for poster submissions that depict a combination of engaging graphics, informative messaging and regional or market identity.
Four prizes will be offered in the following categories: 1st and 2nd place for best overall poster; best EBT/Nutrition Incentive poster; and the Fan Favorite - the poster with the most votes on Facebook. The Farmers Market Coalition has an exciting panel of judges including chefs, farmers market operators and bloggers that will determine the 1st, 2nd, and EBT/Nutrition Incentive poster winners, while the organization's Facebook followers can vote online to crown the Fan Favorite winner. Entrants can use the hashtag #MyMarketPoster to share their designs on social media.
Additional contest entry rules and poster requirements can be found on the Farmers Market Coalition Website. All entries must be submitted by 11:59pm ET on July 16, 2017.
